Sorry pilgrims but I'm away at the moment catching up with family.
In Portomarin, many places are closed for winter, and the best place for a pilgrim menu of the day, or raciones is O'Mirador. The albergue downstairs is also open all year, as is Ultreia, which is a good option if you want to cook for yourself, as they have a fully equipped kitchen. You will find an albergue section - only 12 beds and also habitacions with a share bathroom are reasonably priced.
Enjoy your camino, carry some food, because many places will be closed, and I will reopen after Christmas.

New bar in Vilacha

Today Patrick (Italian) and Nicola (German) have opened their new bar. After a year of restoring the old building, they are offering cold beer, on tap, good coffee and lots of great food, including slices of freshly made pizzas, boccadillos, homemade cakes, burgers, and salads - all vegetarian. Also lots of other cold drinks. Seating outside in the courtyard or in the nice and cool interior. It's great to now have a bar in Vilacha, 4 kilometers before Portomarin.

Changes to the Camino

I have no understanding of why, but this year the route of the camino after Vilacha has been changed. The arrows will take you on the bitumen road shortly after the village, but after another half a kilometer, beside a vineyard, you will be offered a path. It looks OK, but after half a kilometer, it becomes very rocky, with a steep descent down to the Portomarin - Sarria road. It is a difficult path. If one stays on the road, another half a kilometer on, one is then offered another path, again on the right, this cuts a small corner, but after rain it is muddy. My advice is to stay on the road. But please exercise caution. The narrow road from Vilacha is winding, and pilgrims are walking in the middle of the road. To come around a corner in a car and come across pilgrims in the middle of the road, is an accident waiting to happen. Whichever, path you take, you will need to cross a fairly busy road, the Portomarin - Sarria road. Please exercise caution as there are no signs advising cars to be careful of pilgrims crossing. 

I continue to enjoy my simple life in Vilacha, providing a place for pilgrims to rest and take refreshments for a donation. I must reiterate when I speak to you, I have no ulterior motive, all I offer is information about options, when I ask where people would like to stay in Portomarin, etc. 

Spring is here, so the weather is a little warmer, but we are getting our fair share of rain. When it is wet I leave open the stable area downstairs for pilgrims to sit out of the rain. Please respect this space. I cannot provide a toilet as I have a very small fossa septica. I have had a few problems with people peeing on the floor. If this continues to happen I will close the house. 

Pilgrims enrich my life and it is my wish to enrich their pilgrim experience as well. So enjoy the space I offer you, but - take only photos, leave only footprints (the motto of a good bushwalker).
